When it comes to good coffee, trust the whiskers of a wise one. When I was seeking a place to contemplate the varieties of red and yellow Caturra, I stopped in the shade of a magnificent tree. Positioned on a high point, it watched over the El Arcángel farm, established in 2015, with its first harvest in 2017.
Good thing I made it to Caranavi, known as the coffee capital, where fertile soil and the two types of climate make the region an ideal place for coffee production. Coffee is planted in a way that promotes growth and harmonious harvesting practices, with red and yellow Caturra being cultivated separately from other varieties to preserve and highlight their unique qualities in each batch. Agricafe, a partner since 2016, is owned by the Rodriguez family, who began leasing wet mills in the Caranavi region in 1986. In 2001, they built their own wet mill, named Buena Vista, and quickly started export operations. In 2012, after a national decline in coffee production, they began growing their own coffee and now have eight farms in Caranavi and five farms in Samaipata.
It's evident that here you find the inspiration of a divine bark.
