Fincas Los Naranjos uses advanced agronomic practices to grow high-quality coffee while protecting the environment.
Coffee is cultivated in the shade of native plant species that improve soil health, regulate temperature and humidity, and provide protection from the wind. To control invasive plants, Fincas Los Naranjos completely avoids the use of herbicides, preferring manual management. This prevents soil contamination and maintains the ecological balance, promoting the presence of beneficial plants and beneficial fauna. Fertilization is customized based on soil and leaf analysis, with four soil fertilizations and five foliar fertilizations applied annually
Los Naranjos farms are oriented towards the cultivation of high quality coffee varieties and in order to keep them healthy they undergo rigorous pruning procedures, adapted to each plant, according to age, variety and soil characteristics, thus ensuring tissue regeneration and maintaining the production rhythm.
The processing of coffee cherries starts with a classification based on ripeness and Brix grading, thus influencing the processing method. High quality cherries go through a natural process, starting with the removal of empty and overripe cherries by floating, followed by pre-drying for 5 days.
The final drying is carried out on African beds, first on the lower level for 3-5 days to reduce the moisture content to 20%, then on the upper level for 8-10 days until the moisture content reaches 10%. After drying, the coffee is stored in special polypropylene bags with GrainPro bags inside to prevent rehydration and maintain quality. A 300 grams sample is taken from each bag for quality analysis, after which the bags are sealed and placed on wooden pallets, protected with jute bags and dehumidifiers to prevent defects during storage.
These rigorous practices ensure the coffee is of the highest quality, grown and processed in a way that is responsible to the environment and the local community.
