This coffee comes from Nyagishiru and Busasa, two washing stations in Muyinga Province in northern Burundi, where coffee is grown at high elevations in rich volcanic soils. Together, the stations receive cherries from smallholder farmers across the surrounding hills and play an important role in processing each harvest.
Nyagishiru collects coffee from 12 neighbouring hills and has 200 African drying beds, while Busasa works with around 1,600 farmers and employs up to 150 seasonal workers during harvest. Built in 2014, Busasa has also gained recognition through several Cup of Excellence awards. For this lot, carefully selected cherries undergo a natural anaerobic process before being slowly dried on raised African beds.
